The Institute of Philosophy of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is holding an international scientific conference Intellectual Culture of Belarus: from Enlightenment to Modernity on November 21–22, 2024.
The conference continues a series of annual events of the Institute of Philosophy of the NAS of Belarus dedicated to UNESCO World Philosophy Day (celebrated on the third Thursday of November) and is dedicated to the disclosure and popularization of the intellectual culture of Belarus in its diversity of manifestations, its philosophical, moral, ethical and socio-political thought, science and education for the world community. The conference summarizes the numerous events organized by the Institute of Philosophy of the NAS of Belarus within the framework of the Belarusian Philosophy Week.
The issues of the 2024 conference reveal the features of historical dynamics in philosophical and scientific rationality, which is called ‘from Enlightenment to Modernity’. Enlightenment and Modernity are understood here not just as specific historical epochs, but as certain intellectual projects, attitudes of thinking associated with specific ideas about man, nature, and society. During the conference, we will discuss which of these attitudes retain their influence in modern culture and philosophical thought and how they do it, try to assess their heuristic potential for understanding and predicting the rapid transformations taking place today, for overcoming, mitigating or minimizing information, environmental, socio-cultural risks and threats, for strengthening spiritual, cultural and humanitarian security of the society. The choice of such a topic for the conference is associated with the 300th anniversary of the outstanding philosopher of the Enlightenment Immanuel Kant, which allows us to raise the question of updating his philosophical heritage and also of development of Kantian ideas in the field of theory of knowledge, moral philosophy, political theory, etc.
The conference will be attended by more than 200 scientists, teachers, employees of public authorities and management, enterprises and organizations, experts, specialists in the field of social and humanitarian knowledge from Belarus, the Russian Federation, China, Mongolia, Cameroon, Uzbekistan and other countries.
The working languages of the conference are Belarusian, Russian, and English.
Within the framework of the conference, a substantive dialogue was organized between representatives of the scientific community, employees in the field of culture, education, public authorities and management. It is presented at the plenary session, in the work of four sections: ‘The Immanuel Kant’s legacy in the context of world and national philosophical thought’; ‘The specifics of the transformations of the modern era: socio-philosophical theories in the context of global challenges’; ‘Prospects for the modern knowledge synthesis: transdisciplinary strategies and socio-humanitarian context’; ‘Religion in secular and post-secular society: from Enlightenment to modernity’ and round tables ‘Contextual realism as the philosophical foundation of natural and socio-humanitarian sciences’ and ‘Belarus and China in global initiatives: opportunities for partnership’.
A collection of scientific papers in two volumes was published by the beginning of the conference.
