On February 10, 2025, a ceremonial event dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the United Institute of Informatics Problems of the NAS of Belarus took place. For six decades, the institute has been a flagship in information technology. Over these years, many advanced developments have been implemented, which have made a significant contribution to the development of science and technology. The Institute's achievements in creating high-performance supercomputer systems, which are in demand for solving practical problems in mechanical engineering, medicine and logistics, in state security, are widely known. The Institute's team's work on developing new research areas in robotics, artificial intelligence, neural network technologies, bioinformatics, automation and design, geoinformation systems, digital cartography, and information and space technologies has received recognition.
As the First Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Sergei Chizhik noted at the ceremony, today the development of artificial intelligence poses new challenges for scientists. He noted that the institute has achieved a lot in a variety of areas: in medical image analysis, digital twins, bioinformatics, drug modeling, the creation of supercomputers for various purposes, in the space sector. "We can only wish to keep up the good work, to strive for something new, so that we have our own technologies, not foreign ones," emphasized the First Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Director General of the United Institute of Informatics Problems of the NAS of Belarus Sergei Kruglikov emphasized that the United Institute of Informatics Problems is a significant structure both in the history of the Soviet Union and Belarus. It is responsible for informatization in various fields of activity in our country. One of them is healthcare. This is the fastest progressing industry. "We started with electronic healthcare with conventional medical information systems. Now we have moved on to intelligent healthcare. In it, with the help of artificial intelligence, all the ideas of doctors are implemented to make their work easier, but in no way replace them. We are talking about the processing of biomedical images. They significantly facilitate and speed up the diagnosis of various diseases. Today, the team of our institute is among the top ten countries in the world that process various types of images," emphasized Sergey Kruglikov.
On the anniversary date the institute opened a museum, where historical moments of the institute's formation and development are presented. A special place in the exhibition was occupied by significant scientific and applied developments that played a key role in the formation of Belarusian science. During the ceremonial event, the best scientists were honored anniversary commemorative signs and awards for their contribution to the development of the institute.
