Visiting press event at the Central Botanical Garden of the NAS of Belarus
On February 20, 2025, a visiting press event was held for representatives of Belarusian media at the State Scientific Institution "Central Botanical Garden of the NAS of Belarus" on the topic "Exotic Plants in the Collection Fund of the Central Botanical Garden of the NAS of Belarus". Today, the garden's collection contains over 2,300 species. Journalists visited a number of scientific laboratories of the Central Botanical Garden: the laboratory of greenhouse plants, the laboratory of ecological physiology and plant chemistry, etc. The following spoke to journalists: Deputy Director of the State Scientific Institution “Central Botanical Garden of the NAS of Belarus” Lyudmila Goncharova, heads of laboratories Ekaterina Ateslenko, Alexander Yakovlev and others. The participants of the press tour were provided with information on the main areas of scientific and applied research of tropical and subtropical plant species of the world flora; the development and search for effective methods and technologies for their cultivation and reproduction; the maintenance and expansion of the gene pool of tropical and subtropical plants for wider use in the national economic complex of the republic, etc. The State Scientific Institution "Central Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus" is one of the oldest botanical institutions in Belarus. It was organized in 1932 by the decision of the Council of People's Commissars of the BSSR. In 1999, by the decision of the Government of the Republic of Belarus, it was given the status of a scientific object constituting a national heritage. The Central Botanical Garden has been declared a botanical natural monument of national significance and historical and cultural value. The Central Botanical Garden is the country's largest center for the conservation of living plant biodiversity, a leading scientific institution in the field of introduction, acclimatization, physiology, biochemistry, biotechnology and ecology of plants, and environmental protection. It is one of the largest botanical gardens in Europe both in terms of area (93 hectares) and the composition of its plant collections (more than 15 thousand items). The collection funds of living plants and the herbarium of introduced plants of the world flora of the Central Botanical Garden of the NAS of Belarus have been declared a national treasure (Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus dated 25.11.1999 No. 1842).
