The conference "Shereshevo and Pruzhany land: ethnographic, folklore, architectural and artistic heritage of the region" will be held

On May 22-23, 2025, in Pruzhany district, Brest region, a scientific and practical conference will be held "Shereshevo and Pruzhany land: ethnographic, folklore, architectural and artistic heritage of the region", dedicated to the 645th anniversary of Shereshevo urban settlement*, the birthplace of outstanding ethnographers Pavel Bobrovsky and Yuzef Ignatiy Krashevsky.

More than 60 researchers, scientists and specialists in science, culture and education from Minsk, Grodno, Brest and Brest region will take part in the scientific forum, organized by the Department of Ethnology of the Center for Research of Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature of the NAS of Belarus together with Pruzhany District Executive Committee. Among them are 9 doctors of science, 28 candidates of science.

The conference participants will discuss the results of their scientific research of the region, its cultural and tourist potential, current problems of ethnology and other humanitarian disciplines. A round table entitled "Pruzhany Region in the Great Patriotic War (to the 80th Anniversary of the Great Victory)" is planned.

During the conference, a presentation of the book “Shereshevo and Pruzhany land: ethnographic, folkloric, architectural and cultural heritage of the region. Research and Materials” (Minsk: Bel. Nauka, 2025) is planned.

The cultural program of the scientific forum includes local history excursions in Shereshevo and Pruzhany.

Holding the conference in Pruzhany district, a region of Belarus with a rich historical past, distinguished by its original traditions of material and spiritual culture, will draw attention to the positive experience of preserving cultural heritage, which is important for fostering patriotism, respect for the native land, and developing cooperation between scientists, cultural figures, and teachers.

* Shereshevo is an urban settlement in Pruzhany district, Brest region, with a rich history, the birthplace of the outstanding ethnographers Pavel Bobrovsky and Yuzef Ignatiy Krashevsky. The Shereshevo Gospel and famous monuments of Belarusian sacred painting and sculpture of the 17th century originate from the name of the settlement. In Shereshevo, traditional buildings and architectural monuments have been well preserved, which are now objects of study for researchers of various fields. All this determines the attention of historians, ethnologists, folklorists and art historians to this place.
