On May 23, 2025, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Turchin introduced the new Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Vladimir Karanik to the staff of the NAS of Belarus.
The government lays high hopes on the Academy of Sciences, noted Alexander Turchin. "Vladimir Karanik is an experienced manager. He was the Minister of Health during the most difficult times - during the pandemic. And also the Chairman of Grodno Regional Executive Committee, the Deputy Prime Minister, who oversaw the social sphere. And yesterday a new appointment - the most important, in my opinion, in the career of Vladimir Karanik. The Academy of Sciences, without exaggeration, is the most important link, without science today it is impossible to do anything. Our century is the century of technology, scientific discoveries. On the eve of the new five-year cycle, during the period of development of new program documents, the government lays great hopes on the Academy of Sciences, on its assistance in its work, in fulfilling the tasks set by the head of state," said Alexander Turchin. He thanked the previous head of the NAS of Belarus, Vladimir Gusakov, for his work and noted that under his management the Academy of Sciences has struggled many significant achievements and results. "We can list them endlessly. Thanks to Vladimir Gusakov, our science has reached a new level. I am sure that Vladimir Gusakov's experience and knowledge will be useful to our country in the future," the head of the Belarusian government emphasized.
Addressing those present, Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Vladimir Karanik noted the high achievements of the Academy of Sciences. "The team is the most valuable thing in any organization, and in the Academy of Sciences it is 95% of success. I am sure that academic institutes and the NAS as a whole have not only a glorious history, but also a glorious future. We must remember the achievements of our predecessors in order to develop them and move forward. The tasks before us are large-scale. Now there is a transition to a new technological level, a global struggle for minds and innovations. Our task is to find our place in this rapidly changing world, to provide our economy with applied scientific developments that will make our products to be competitive in foreign markets, but not to forget about fundamental science, which lays the foundation for future generations. The humanitarian direction is also important, it is history, the soul of the people, which we must preserve in order to remember our roots, preserve our originality and identity. We will support all directions as much as possible," Vladimir Karanik emphasized.
In turn, Vladimir Gusakov thanked the Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Turchin for the kind words addressed to him, thanked the staff of the NAS of Belarus for their fruitful work and wished the new head of the Academy of Sciences high results and great success for the benefit of the country.
