The NAS of Belarus and Chinese Academy of Sciences signed a cooperation agreement and an action plan until 2030

On June 5, 2025, in Beijing (PRC), the Agreement on Scientific and Technical Cooperation was signed between the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NAS of Belarus) and Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). An Action Plan to Enhance Cooperation between the NAS of Belarus and CAS for 2025–2030 was also signed. The documents were signed by Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Vladimir Karanik and President of Chinese Academy of Sciences Hou Jianguo. The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to China Alexander Chervyakov. Negotiations with the President of CAS Hou Jianguo were also held.

The Agreement on Scientific and Technical Cooperation between the NAS of Belarus and CAS is aimed at strengthening the scientific and technical potential of Belarus and China, developing and expanding relations between the countries, promoting scientific and technical cooperation and the practical implementation of joint activities in science and technology that are of mutual interest. The main objectives of cooperation between scientists of the two countries are to create favorable conditions for organizing joint developments, commercialization of the results of joint activities in the Republic of Belarus and the People's Republic of China, exchange of ideas and information, and joint use of the scientific infrastructure of both countries. The NAS of Belarus and Chinese Academy of Sciences plan to create joint centers and laboratories on the basis of the Academies of Sciences of the two countries and Belarusian-Chinese Industrial Park "Great Stone"; conduct joint research, scientific and technical events in a wide range of areas; organize internships and training in master's and postgraduate programs of the universities of the academies.

Within the framework of the signed Agreement, the following areas have been identified as priorities: microelectronics and instrument making; mechanical engineering, including developments in electric transport; space technologies; optical and laser technologies; information technologies and artificial intelligence. Scientists from Belarus and China will cooperate in energy; nanomaterials and nanotechnology; biotechnology and medicine; chemical technology; ecology and environmental protection. Such topics as preserving the historical and cultural heritage of the peoples of the two countries will not be ignored either.

As Vladimir Karanik noted during the meeting, Belarus and China have long been linked by a fruitful partnership based on mutual respect, trust and the desire for innovative development. "China is one of the key strategic partners of Belarus in science, technology and high-tech production. I would like to emphasize that the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, as the highest state scientific organization of the country, is actively developing and strengthening scientific cooperation with PRC. Interaction with scientific centers and enterprises of China is one of the priority areas of development of the international activities of the Academy of Sciences," emphasized Vladimir Karanik.

On June 5, 2025, negotiations were held between the Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Vladimir Karanik and the President of Chinese Academy of Sciences Hou Jianguo. Promising areas and mechanisms for expanding cooperation between the NAS of Belarus and CAS were discussed. Members of Belarusian delegation visited the Research Institute of Microelectronics of CAS and the Research Institute of Semiconductors of CAS.
