2nd Congress of Scientific Councils of the International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS)

On June 3-7, 2025, the II Congress of Scientific Councils of the International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS) was held in Jinan (PRC), which was held within the framework of the “One Belt, One Road” initiative. A representative delegation of the NAS of Belarus took part in its work: members of the Bureau of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus, academician-secretaries of the directorates of the NAS of Belarus, directors of scientific organizations of the NAS of Belarus, famous scientists and young researchers. The Forum in Jinan was attended by heads and leading scientists of academies of sciences and major scientific and research centers of a number of countries, including delegations from Belarus, Russia, China, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Montenegro, etc. The organizers of the event were Shandong Provincial Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

In addition to the plenary session, the congress included meetings of four sections, where scientists from different countries examined current areas of development of modern science. These were: “Prospects of Life Sciences”; “Microelectronics and Artificial Intelligence”, “Energy, New Materials and Technologies”, “Culture, Art and History”.

A number of scientific events took place within the framework of the II Congress of Scientific Councils of the IAAS. Thus, on June 5, a Conference was held dedicated to the Years of Cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the People's Republic of China in Science, Technology and Innovation (2024-2025). The forum featured reports in advanced areas of science – laser technologies, optics and intelligent sensing, and priority areas for further cooperation were also identified. Following the Conference, a resolution was signed. On June 5, 2025, the IAAS Young Scientists Conference 2025 brought together young researchers from China and Belarus, as well as IAAS member organizations. The Conference not only presented reports, but also identified prospects for cooperation in various scientific fields and joint initiatives for 2025. A meeting of the Council of Young Scientists of the IAAS was held.

Following the results of the II Congress of Scientific Councils of the IAAS, a resolution was adopted.

Information: The 1st Congress of Scientific Councils of the IAAS was held at the NAS of Belarus on November 24-26, 2021. The main results of the activities and prospects of the work of the scientific councils of the MAAS, issues of further cooperation in key areas of development of modern science were considered. Scientists from various countries presented scientific reports, discussed the results of the study of the current state of academic science in the academies of sciences - members of the IAAS; interaction of botanical gardens of the CIS countries, the work of the scientific council on virology, prospects for international cooperation in the study of problem ecosystems, the development of interstate cooperation in space research and other current issues.

Today, the International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS) unites 27 organizations (academies of sciences of the CIS and other countries, universities, major research centers from the Caribbean to Asia). Since 2017, the functions of the basic academy of sciences in the organizational and methodological support of IAAS have been performed by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The highest governing body of IAAS is the Council of IAAS.
