On September 18, the 38th meeting of the Council of the International Association of Academies of Sciences was held at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus

During the 38th meeting of the IAAS Council, the theme of which was “Modern Macrotrends in the Development of World Science: New Challenges and Opportunities,” a number of important issues of fundamental importance for the further successful functioning of the Association were considered. The meeting discussed the main results of the IAAS activities and promising areas for the development of the association, as well as the activities of the IAAS Council of Young Scientists. The meeting participants discussed the creation of a unified database of scientific knowledge and the possible publication of a specialized scientific journal where both young and established scientists could publish their research findings. Issues of further mutually beneficial cooperation between the Association's member organizations in key areas of modern science development were also discussed, and leading scientists from various countries presented scientific reports. Two organizations from China – the Henan Provincial Academy of Sciences and the Northwestern Polytechnical University – made presentations on their activities for subsequent consideration of the possibility of these organizations joining the Association at the 39th meeting of the IAAS Council.

Greetings to the participants of the 38th meeting of the Council of the International Academy of Agrarian Sciences were addressed by Deputy Head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Belarus Matusevich D., President of Russian Academy of Sciences Academician Krasnikov G., and also sent by CIS Secretary General Lebedev S., State Secretary of the Union State Glazyev S., Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Ryzhenkov M.

The 38th meeting of the IAAS Council was attended by the heads and representatives of the management (some of them via videoconference) of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology, the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyz Republic, Russian Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Academy of Sciences of Guangdong Province (PRC), the Academy of Sciences of Jiangxi Province (PRC), the Academy of Sciences of Heilongjiang Province (PRC), the Academy of Sciences of Shandong Province (PRC), as well as leading scientific centers - NRC Kurchatov Institute (Russia), Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (Russia), Lomonosov Moscow State University, Russian Academy of Education, Russian Center for Scientific Information, and the Belarusian Republican Foundation for Fundamental Research.

At the meeting of the Council of the IAAS, the new head of the Association was unanimously elected – Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Karanik, and his deputy – Chief Scientific Secretary of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vasily Gursky. The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus continues to perform the functions of the basic academy of sciences in the organizational and methodological support of the IAAS.

During the meeting, the regalia of the Academician of the IAAS were presented to previously elected academicians of the IAAS, and new academicians of the IAAS were elected (President of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan Shavkat Ayupov, President of Mongolian Academy of Sciences Demberel Sodnomsambuu, Vice-President of Russian Academy of Sciences Sergei Aldoshin, Vice-President of the National Research Center "Kurchatov Institute" Alexander Blagov, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Karanik, Chief Scientific Secretary of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vasily Gursky). An award ceremony was held for the Grand Medal of the IAAS “For Cooperation and Development of Science” and certificates from the Association of renowned scientists who have made a significant contribution to the activities of the IAAS.

The meeting of the Council of Young Scientists of the IAAS was held yesterday, during which young scientists summarized the interim results of the work and identified prospects for cooperation in various scientific fields and plans for the near future, including holding joint youth events (forums, conferences and schools), implementing joint projects, and publishing articles.

Following the meeting, the Final Resolution of the 38th meeting of the Council of the International Association of Academies of Sciences was adopted.
