The NAS of Belarus participates in the work of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space
Representatives of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Belarus to the International Organizations in Vienna (Austria) are participating in the 63rd session of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, which is being held in Vienna from 2 to 13 February 2026.
Irina Kazachok, Chief Specialist of the Aerospace Activities Department of the NAS of Belarus, delivered the keynote address representing our country. She emphasized that space activities in Belarus are carried out for peaceful purposes and make a significant contribution to the development of science and technology, the economy, and the informatization of society.
It should be noted that on December 28, 2025, two Belarusian spacecraft, NASBat-1 and NASBSat-2, were launched into space from Cosmodrome “Vostochny”. NASBSat-1 is designed to probe the ionosphere from space as part of the newly established radiometric monitoring system for near-Earth space (the information obtained will be used for the country's energy sector). The NASBSat-2 satellite, equipped with two infrared cameras and one optical camera, is designed to monitor the Earth's surface for the early detection of thermal anomalies (forest fires) in Belarus.
