Today, a celebratory event was held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Publishing House “Belarusian Science”. Colleagues from various academic departments, publishing houses, and the library community came to congratulate the staff on this significant milestone. Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Vladimir Karanik also congratulated Publishing House “Belarusian Science” on this significant date. In his opening remarks, he noted that in the 1920s, the publishing house was one of the first and most important projects of the Institute of Belarusian Culture, and therefore the best forces were thrown into its implementation. "In difficult times, enthusiasts of their field—renowned scientists and writers—created a publishing house. It was a major step forward in bringing our native language to readers and popularizing Belarusian literature and science. And it was done with great creativity and professionalism," said Vladimir Karanik.
The head of the Academy of Sciences is convinced that the publishing house's awards and achievements are still to come, and its main mission is to popularize science and literature, preserve national culture and identity, and improve the literacy of our population. "Established traditions, combined with a blend of experience and youth, inspire us to look to the future with optimism and understand that many significant achievements, many interesting publications and projects lie ahead," said Vladimir Karanik.
Further, according to the event program, Deputy Minister of Information Denis Yezersky read a congratulatory address on behalf of Minister of Information Marat Markov. "Publishing House “Belarusian Science” has had a glorious, remarkable history and is now rightfully considered a national leader in scientific publishing. The publishing house's core business is the publication of scientific, popular science, and reference literature that reflects the uniqueness and distinctiveness of the Belarusian people, the grandeur of its history and culture, and showcases achievements in all areas of the country's life. I am confident that by enriching the world-renowned traditions of Belarusian book publishing, the publishing house will continue to make a significant contribution to strengthening the moral foundations of Belarusian society, and that new creative achievements will serve as a positive example in the development of national culture," the congratulatory message reads.
Warm words and best wishes were heard from the stage today for all the publishing house employees – especially the women who shoulder the complex and painstaking work of publishing.
The publishing house was founded in Minsk in 1925–1926 as the editorial and publishing department of the Institute of Belarusian Culture (Inbelkult). Since 1929, it has been part of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR; since 1932, it was called the Publishing House of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR; since 1963, it was called "Science and Technology”; since 1996, it was called "Belarusian Science"; and since June 2000, it has been known as the Republican Unitary Enterprise "Publishing House "Belarusian Science". In February 2005, as a result of the merger of the editorial and publishing institution "Science and Innovation", which included the editorial offices of the scientific and practical journal of the same name and the information and analytical newspaper "Knowledge" (since 2015 - "Science"), as well as the printing section, the publishing house was reorganized into the RUE "Publishing House "Belarusian Science".
