The NAS of Belarus and Russian Arkhangelsk Region have agreed on joint research in the Arctic
Belarus and Russian Arkhangelsk Region will join forces to conduct joint research projects in the Arctic region. This agreement was reached during talks between Alexei Trukhanov, Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus, and Ivan Dementyev, Deputy Chairman of Arkhangelsk Region Government.
"Joint research can yield valuable scientific results and contribute to the advancement of Arctic science, becoming a powerful driver of progress and economic development. Such initiatives help better understand climate processes and develop technologies for the sustainable use of Arctic resources," said Alexey Trukhanov.
The parties agreed to implement a number of important and promising initiatives aimed at addressing pressing environmental and scientific challenges. These include the development of advanced technologies for the production of highly effective peat-based sorbents and scientific research into reforestation using genetic selection. Work is currently underway on an international cooperation agreement and a plan of joint activities for 2026 between the Institute of Nature Management of the NAS of Belarus and the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M. Lomonosov.
