International Conference “Modeling of Synthesis and Destruction Processes of Advanced Materials” under the auspices of the International Association of Academies of Sciences

Under the auspices of the International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS), the International Conference “Modeling of Synthesis and Destruction Processes of Advanced Materials” was held on October 14–15, 2021, at the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and at the Institute of Applied Physics.

Following the opening remarks by the Deputy Head of the IAAS, Academician P. A. Vityaz, the conference was preceded by a meeting of the IAAS Scientific Council on Nanotechnology and speeches by its co-chairs: Academicians S. A. Chizhik (Belarus), A. G. Naumovets (Ukraine), and K. A. Solntsev (Russia). During the conference, more than 20 presentations by leading scientists from Russia, Belarus, Germany, South Korea, and other countries were delivered. Particular interest was generated by reports on the modeling of chemical compounds and materials for nuclear and hydrogen energy, as well as on the verification of computer models using newly developed instrumentation.

Following the meeting, a decision was made to expand the Council’s scope of activities to include nano- and additive technologies, as well as to consider the establishment of a council on control and diagnostics (encompassing both technical and medical aspects). In accordance with the Roadmap of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the National Research Centre “Kurchatov Institute,” the conference also addressed the creation of an International Center for Materials Modeling based at the Kurchatov Institute, with the Belarusian side as a co-founder.
