Meeting of the Scientific Council on Agrarian Problems of the International Association of Academies of Sciences

On October 6, 2020, an organizational meeting of the Scientific Council on Agrarian Problems of the International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS) was held at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in a videoconference format. The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus, Corresponding Member P. P. Kazakevich, who serves as the Chairman of this Council. . Scientists from four countries—Belarus, Russia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia—took an active part in the event. A report titled “The Role and Tasks of Agrarian Science in the Republic of Belarus” was delivered by the Academic Secretary of the Department of Agrarian Sciences of the NAS of Belarus, Corresponding Member V. V. Azarenko. The meeting also considered a draft Regulation on the Scientific Council on Agrarian Problems of the IAAS.

The Scientific Council on Agrarian Problems includes 17 members, 12 of whom are from Belarus. These include general directors of five scientific and practical centers of the Academy of Sciences, academicians and corresponding members, and directors of scientific organizations of the Department of Agrarian Sciences of the NAS of Belarus, who are actively engaged in research across all areas of the agro-industrial complex of the Republic of Belarus: agriculture, crop production and fodder production, animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, agricultural mechanization, food production, and agrarian economics.
The Council also includes three representatives from the Russian Federation: Deputy Chairman of the IAAS Scientific Council on Agrarian Problems, Academician of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences A. S. Donchenko; Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences V. M. Kosolapov; and Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Ya. P. Lobachevsky.

From the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Corresponding Member Zeynal Ibuoglu Akperov became a member of the Council, and from the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Georgia (Ajara Autonomous Republic), Academician Z. N. Putkaradze joined the Council.

The Chairman of the IAAS Scientific Council on Agrarian Problems, P. P. Kazakevich, proposed identifying joint research areas for scientists from member countries and finding common ground on issues of mutual interest in the field of agriculture. It is planned to further expand the geographical representation of the Council by inviting leading agrarian scientists from Kazakhstan, Moldova, and other countries.
