Jubilee Session of the International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS) dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Association

On September 20–21, 2018, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus hosted an anniversary session of the International Association of Academies of Sciences dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the organization. The event brought together heads of academies of sciences from CIS countries and other states, as well as prominent scientists.During the IAAS session, it was planned to discuss the adoption of documents aimed at improving the Association’s activities, bringing the positions of the academies of sciences closer together, and implementing joint projects. A resolution was also adopted following the event.

The International Association of Academies of Sciences was officially established on September 23, 1993, in Kyiv. Since 2017, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus has been performing the functions of the base academy, providing organizational and methodological support to the IAAS, and the Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus, Academician Vladimir Gusakov, was elected as the head of the Association.The supreme governing body of the International Association of Academies of Sciences is the IAAS Council. Currently, the Association includes 13 full members and 6 associate members. A total of 17 scientific councils operate within the IAAS.
