Belarusian-Chinese scientific and practical workshop on biotechnology was held at the Academy of Sciences

Belarusian-Chinese scientific and practical workshop on "Modern Biotechnology: Current Trends and Development Prospects" was held at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, with leading scientists and specialists in biotechnology from the NAS and Chinese Academy of Sciences participated.

The event discussed promising development areas in the biotechnology industry. Experiences and developments were also shared, covering a wide range of topics, from fundamental research to applied developments.

Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Alexei Trukhanov addressed the guests and participants of the event with a welcoming speech. He emphasized that cooperation between the Academy of Sciences and the CAS has reached a brand new level. In 2025, two contractual documents were signed: an agreement on scientific and technical cooperation between the NAS and the CAS and an Action Plan to Enhance Cooperation for 2025-2030.

"Time presents us with new challenges, and we cannot rest on our laurels. I see prospects for our collaboration in deepening cooperation in areas such as biotechnology and medicine, optics and photoelectronics, materials science, information technology and artificial intelligence, space exploration, and others," said Alexey Trukhanov.

The visit by the delegation from Chinese Academy of Sciences, led by Vice President He Hongping, includes a number of events and meetings, including with Vladimir Karanik, Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus. The main topic of discussion was the prospects for further cooperation between the academic institutions of the two countries.

Particular attention was paid to the implementation of Belarusian-Chinese scientific and scientific-technical projects and joint research in various fields of scientific activity.

"Our cooperation is a logical continuation of the high-level intergovernmental contacts and the deep personal friendship between the leaders of Belarus and China. I am convinced that by combining our intellectual and industrial potential, we will be able to implement ambitious and breakthrough projects that will ensure technological sovereignty and bring significant benefits to our economies," said Vladimir Karanik.

The head of the Academy of Sciences emphasized the willingness of Belarusian scientists to actively collaborate in areas of mutual interest, such as new materials, microelectronics, biotechnology, information technology, and space exploration.

The meeting also discussed opportunities for expanding academic mobility, including internships for young scientists and joint conferences and seminars.
