The Academy of Sciences hosted an expert scientific session "A New Era of Modern Virology: Infectious Threats and Countermeasures"

The event was attended by approximately 60 people – specialists and experts from academic and university science, as well as young scientists.

Opening the session, Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Vladimir Karanik stated that, despite the development of medicine and the emergence of antibiotics and antiviral drugs, infectious diseases remain a serious threat to public health and the sustainable development of society.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has clearly demonstrated that infectious diseases have not disappeared and require constant attention and effective countermeasures," he emphasized.

Vladimir Karanik also discussed the risk-based approach to combating infections used in Belarus and noted that the current situation with viral diseases, including outbreaks of known infections, requires constant updating of knowledge and improvement of the healthcare system.

"Such events and scientific sessions facilitate the exchange of experience and the development of effective strategies that will help minimize the risk of infection and ensure high-quality medical care for the population," the head of the Academy of Sciences expressed confidence.
