A working meeting between Vladimir Karanik, Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus, and Alexei Volkov, Head of the State Forensic Expertise Committee, took place today at the central office of the SFEC
During the meeting, Alexei Volkov noted that the meeting marks the next stage in the development of bilateral relations between the Belarusian expert agency and the National Academy of Sciences, emphasizing that the parties are already cooperating productively in a number of areas and will continue this fruitful cooperation in the future to introduce the latest scientific and technological results into forensic practice.
"We do have common ground with forensic experts, including in digitalization and the development of DNA identification methods that can be used in both forensic science and the healthcare system," said Vladimir Karanik.
The head of the Academy of Sciences also noted that the introduction of advanced genetic technologies has a dual purpose: on the one hand, it is a powerful tool for preventive medicine to identify hereditary predispositions to disease, and on the other, it is an important resource for ensuring national security.
The parties paid special attention to the tasks of import substitution of reagents and equipment used for forensic biological examinations, as well as the development of standard reference samples for drugs, psychotropic substances, and medicinal substances.
Representatives of the SFEC and the NAS discussed the possibility of creating a modern hardware and software system for scanning bullets and shells bearing traces of small shooting firearms, as well as developing software and hardware for conducting computer-technical examinations and examinations of electronic devices and household electrical appliances.
The meeting concluded with a tour of the forensic laboratories of the Main Directorates of Forensic and Specialized Expertise, where the latest examples of body armor and modern equipment were on display.
