Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Karanik held a working meeting dedicated to the activities of the Belarusian Antarctic Expeditions (BAE)

The meeting focused on the preparation and organization of the 19th expedition.

Vladimir Karanik noted that Belarus's participation in Antarctic research has already become an important component of the Academy of Sciences' image and a symbol of the country's presence in the international scientific arena.

He emphasized the dual nature of the project: on the one hand, it serves as a public relations component, showcasing the national flag and scientific potential. On the other, it represents serious scientific work aimed at gaining new knowledge that will expand expertise in various fields of science, both applied and fundamental.

Particular attention was paid to the safety and control of the expedition, which remain a priority for the successful conduct of research.

The meeting also discussed the results of the 18th expedition and the participation of Belarusian specialists in international events, such as the 48th Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting and the 28th meeting of the Committee for Environmental Protection.

Vladimir Karanik also noted that this year Belarus celebrates the 20th anniversary of its accession to the Antarctic Treaty.

"Over the years, much has been accomplished, including the creation of a Belarusian Antarctic station for systematic annual scientific research in a wide range of areas. At the same time, Belarusian scientists face the challenge of reaching a new level and demonstrating to the international community the significance of their contribution to the study of the unique processes occurring in Antarctica," said Vladimir Karanik.
