The 39th meeting of the IAAS Council will be held in Xi'an, China

The 39th meeting of the Council of the International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS) will be held in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, China, on October 28, 2026. The event is being organized by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus jointly with the Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU).

The meeting of the IAAS Council will be held on the sidelines of the large-scale Conference of Eminent Scientists of the Global South, which underscores the parties' commitment to strengthening and deepening scientific and technological cooperation between the countries.

Incidentally, the choice of Xi'an as the venue for the IAAS Council is no coincidence. As a reminder, on August 22, 2024, a landmark agreement was signed in Minsk establishing a representative office of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus at the Northwestern Polytechnic University.

During the 39th meeting of the IAAS Council, representatives of leading scientific organizations from member countries will discuss current issues of scientific, technical, and innovation cooperation, the integration of academic science and business, and personnel training. A key part of the program will be a meeting of the IAAS Council of Young Scientists, designed to provide new impetus for the development of international youth scientific dialogue.

The International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS) was established in 1993 to address the most pressing issues of scientific development, define the directions of fundamental and applied research, and coordinate the scientific strategies of academies of sciences and major research centers across countries. At the IAAS Council meeting in September 2025 in Minsk, Vladimir Karanik, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, was elected as the Association's manager.
