A working meeting on the preparation and holding of the Science Festival was held at the Academy of Sciences
Vladimir Karanik, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, held a working meeting today dedicated to preparations for the country's main popular science event – the Science Festival at the Central Botanical Garden.
This year, the event will be held at a fundamentally new level for the first time: The festival will last two days – September 5 and 6, offering visitors a rich and varied program, and anyone can attend it completely free of charge.
Opening the session, Vladimir Karanik emphasized that the festival's main goal is to demonstrate that science can be not only useful, but also incredibly exciting and engaging, and, most importantly, understandable to everyone.
"We've decided to change the festival's format—making it a two-day event with free admission—so that Minsk residents and visitors can truly immerse in the atmosphere of scientific discoveries and, without the rush and fuss, see that science is interesting and captivating. We've prepared a truly rich program, adding interactive areas and evening activities. This is our contribution to the popularization of science, and I believe it's a great reason to put everything aside and spend the weekend with family and friends in an engaging and festive atmosphere," said Vladimir Karanik.
The Science Festival program covers a wide range of fields:
The central venue will host the opening ceremony, science and nitrogen shows, panel discussions with experts on science and art popularization, and intellectual quizzes;
Intelligent Technologies (partner – OJSC “Grodno Azot”): a playground of the future with humanoid robots, drone simulators, and robotic football competitions;
Space: From lectures on exoplanets to model rocket launches and interactive site "Your Space";
Ecology (partner – LLC “Belagroterminal”): interactive microorganisms, study of rare minerals from Antarctica, and environmental conservation master-classes;
Medicine: A unique opportunity to practice suturing, DNA extraction, and take a 3D tour of a modern pharmaceutical manufacturing facility;
Taste of Science (partner – BREMOR): tastings of “food of the future” (alternative proteins), innovative ice cream, and traditional Belarusian dishes;
History and tradition: a dive into archaeology, medieval fashion, and folk crafts.
The festival will also showcase the achievements of university science at site "University of the Future" (with the support of the Ministry of Education) and the developments of young scientists – winners of the "100 Innovations of Young Scientists" competition (partner – group of companies “Ferment”).
The scale of the event is underscored by the participation of Russian colleagues: the "Secret Embassy" scientific and educational center at Zaryadye Park and representatives of the All-Russian "SCIENCE 0+" festival, who will be setting up their unique interactive sites.
"We are creating a unique, open site for dialogue between science and society, where everyone will speak the same language. I am confident that the Science Festival will be a fascinating and memorable event for every guest, instilling a sense of pride in Russian science and the country as a whole," concluded Vladimir Karanik.
