The Central Botanical Garden will become a center of attraction: the Science Festival will be held in Minsk on September 5 and 6
The Central Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will become a center of attraction for Minsk residents and visitors: on September 5 and 6, 2026, Minsk will host the country's largest popular science event, the Science Festival. This was announced today at a press conference for media representatives by Vladimir Karanik, head of the Academy of Sciences. He expressed hope that the large-scale event will attract young people to science and serve as an incentive for them to engage in scientific research.
"Our event has several focuses. The first and foremost is the popularization of science. We sincerely hope that the thousands of young Belarusians who attended the festival will be inspired and inspired to become researchers. Furthermore, this is a great opportunity for young researchers to network, exchange ideas, and establish new contacts. And perhaps this interaction at the Science Festival will lead to the emergence of new interdisciplinary scientific teams of young researchers who will make a significant contribution to the development of our scientific school," he said.
The Chairman of the NAS Presidium also noted the significant international presence of this year's event. This year, for the first time, more than 30 Russian scientific and educational institutions will participate in the Science Festival
It's worth noting that each year the festival's program is unique, non-repeating, and suitable for visitors of all ages and interests. The platforms cover a wide range of scientific fields: space technology, medicine, new materials, the humanities, food, ecology, engineering, and robotics.
On September 5, at the Cosmos site, Festival guests will meet with Russian cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev. Also on September 5, at the ATOMTEAM site, the Engineering Division of the Rosatom State Corporation will host a meeting with physicist and science popularizer Vladimir Surdin, and on September 6, with inventor Andrey Bakhmetyev. Additionally, you can try your hand at being an expert in the real-life game "What? Where? When?"
The Intelligent Technologies site will host a large-scale robot tournament, where visitors and experienced participants will compete in five types of drone and remote-controlled competitions. A real hot air balloon will also be on display.
A key part of the program on September 5 will be a roundtable discussion with the leadership of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Ministries of Education of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation, and business representatives, dedicated to the popularization of science in Belarus. On September 6, a roundtable discussion will also be held with scientists and representatives of the cultural industries, focusing on the integration of science and art.
The culmination of the first day of the Festival will be the Evening Program, which will run from 19:00 to 22:00 at the Central Stage. Visitors can expect exciting scientific shows about electricity and the science of fireworks, as well as a musical performance accompanied by a Tesla coil. For the first time in Belarus, a unique production by the plastic science theater, "Superposition," will premiere. Actors use dance and music to demonstrate the principles of quantum entanglement theory.
The event is organized by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
