Vladimir Karanik, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, paid a working visit to St. Petersburg, where he met with Andrey Rudskoy, head of St. Petersburg branch of Russian Academy of Sciences
The main focus of the discussions was the development and strengthening of cooperation between scientific organizations in Belarus and St. Petersburg, as well as a review of the results of joint initiatives and projects already implemented.
Today, Belarusian and Russian scientists are successfully cooperating in key areas such as biotechnology, agriculture, and plant breeding. This cooperation is yielding tangible results and fostering development in both countries.
However, as Vladimir Karanik noted, the potential for further expanding cooperation between scientists is far greater.
This involves not only the exchange of experience and knowledge but also the creation of new joint research platforms that will enable the pooling of the intellectual resources of specialists from both countries to address pressing challenges, including import substitution.
"I am pleased that we have managed to preserve a unified scientific space in the relationship between Russia and Belarus. We hope that our cooperation will not be limited to current projects; we plan to engage more actively in the natural sciences and medicine, pooling the potential of our Academies of Science for the benefit of both countries' development. St. Petersburg school of pharmacy is of particular interest to us — there is much we can learn from it as we work together on treatments for socially significant diseases, primarily cancer," said Vladimir Karanik.
For his part, Andrey Rudskoy noted that the cooperation between St. Petersburg Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is becoming increasingly systematic: Russian and Belarusian scientists are conducting joint research and projects, preparing publications, and holding working meetings and scientific events.
"Behind these contacts lie concrete scientific results and established professional ties. A solid foundation has already been laid for future work across a wide range of areas—from biomedicine and genetic resources to space technologies, artificial intelligence, and fundamental physics," he emphasized.
