This large-scale event, initiated by the primary organizations of Belarusian Union of Women at the NAS and BSU, aims to promote scientific activity among women and strengthen professional collaboration among female researchers.
Representatives of the country’s scientific community and public administration addressed the plenary session, including Olga Chupris, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration; Irina Abelskaya, Deputy Chair of the Standing Commission of the Council of the Republic; Ekaterina Petrutskaya, Deputy Minister of Education; Olga Dubanevich, Chief Scientific Secretary of the Higher Attestation Commission; Academician Emilia Kolomiyets; Olga Shpilevskaya, Chairperson of Belarusian Union of Women; and others.
Opening the forum, Vladimir Karanik, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, noted that a unique combination of intellect and beauty is on display today within the walls of the Academy of Sciences.
According to him, the high proportion of women within the NAS — approximately 50% — clearly demonstrates that the country has created the necessary conditions for individuals to realize their potential in any field, including scientific research.
The head of the Academy of Sciences emphasized the significant contribution women make to the development of both national and global science.
"In a number of scientific fields, one can confidently say that Belarusian science has a female face. Looking back, we see many outstanding members of the scientific community who have left a significant mark on science; yet, seeing how many talented women work at the Academy of Sciences today, I am certain that the greatest achievements still lie ahead," he said.
Vladimir Karanik added that, thanks to the Head of State's attention to the scientific sector, conditions for researchers and the advancement of science will remain highly favorable.
He also expressed confidence that the forum would become a cherished annual tradition, and wished the participants success in reaching new scientific heights and achievements — "gracefully, with a smile and charm."
