Belarusian-Chinese agricultural microbiology center opened in Harbin

On June 17, 2016 the official opening ceremony of the Belarusian-Chinese microbiology center was held In Harbin (China).

The founders of the new agency are the Institute of Microbiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Microbiology Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Heilongjiang Province. The operation of the agricultural microbiology center will be aimed at mutually beneficial cooperation for the sake of ensuring great economic effects from introducing and commercializing biotechnologies.

During the opening ceremony Emily Kolomiets, Director General of the Belarusian state R&D group Chemical Synthesis and Biotechnologies, Director of the Institute of Microbiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, and Professor Zhang Jiechi, Director of the Microbiology Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Heilongjiang Province, signed a cooperation agreement. The document provides for joint scientific research in agricultural microbiology areas, which are of current interest for both countries, for assimilating scientific results into practice, and also for sharing scientific information and enabling systemic highly effective interaction. Initially the center is supposed to implement the project for developing a microbe-powered technology to liquidate oil pollution and emergency oil spills, as well as to create a pilot zone for cleaning oil pollution in China.
