On August 17, 2016 at the National Press Center of the Republic of Belarus held a press conference on the theme "On the competition for the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus in the field of science and technology in 2016". The event was attended by Nikolay S. Kazak, Academician of the NAS of Belarus, Director of the State Scientific and Production Association "Optics, optoelectronics and laser technology", member of the Subcommittee on State Prizes of the Republic of Belarus in the field of science and technology, as well as representatives of research teams involved in the competition for the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus in the field of science and technology in 2016.

As told reporters Academician N. Kazak, Presidential Decree determined that the highest recognition of the merits of science and technology, literature, art and architecture to society and the state is the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus. The State Prize is awarded to one applicant or group of applicants consisting of no more than 6 people, a creative contribution of which to the work, nominated for the State Prize, is the most significant.
