On January 25, 2017 a press conference dedicated to the Day of Belarusian Science was held at the National Press Center of the Republic of Belarus. It was attended by Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir G. Gusakov, Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr G. Shumilin, First Deputy Minister of Education of the Republic of Belarus Vadim A. Bogush, and Director of Executive Directorate of the Belarusian Republican Foundation for Fundamental Research Sergey V. Gaponenko.

As V.G.Gusakov told the reporters, the output of science intensive products has increased in Belarus more than twice for the last five years. Each ruble of budget funds earned 48 rubles from the sale of products. In 2013–2016 the Academy of Sciences created 33 innovative productions. The Chairman of the NASB Presidium emphasized that the announcement of the Year of Science was a timely decision. It will significantly raise the status of the Belarusian science, provide additional conditions to improve its efficiency and at the same time enable the country to achieve serious progress in addressing the problems of innovation, intellectualization and research intensity.
