Swedish and Belarusian scientists to cooperate in the field of ecology and energy

From 26 February to 2 March 2018, Vice President of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences Magnus Breidne visited Minsk at the invitation of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The purpose of the visit was to discuss promising areas and mechanisms for developing scientific and technical cooperation between the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and Swedish organizations.

During the talks Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, and Magnus Breidne, Vice President of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, expressed interest in deepening cooperation between the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences through implementing joint research programs, scientific events, as well as developing innovative infrastructure in the field of ecology and energy.

In addition to energy and ecology, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, construction, mining and materials, forest machinery, biotechnology, information technology are named as possible areas for initiating joint research and activities. Following the talks, it was agreed that in the near future Belarusian and Swedish scientists will jointly identify priority areas of cooperation and specific mechanisms for their implementation. They will maintain direct scientific contacts between experts in order to further building the capacity to create joint scientific developments, as well as work out the possibility of signing a cooperation agreement between the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences.

Vice President of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences Dr. Magnus Breidne thanked the leadership of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for the cordial welcome and fruitful program of his stay in the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and invited Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of the NASB Presidium, to visit the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences to participate in the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Academy, which will be held in the near future.

Within the framework of the visit, Dr. Magnus Breidne visited the following organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus: the Powder Metallurgy Institute, the Scientific and Practical Materials Research Center, the State Scientific and Production Amalgamation "Optics, Optoelectronics and Laser Technology", the United Institute of Informatics Problems, the Scientific and Engineering Enterprise "Geoinformation Systems", the Institute of Chemistry of New Materials and the Physical-Technical Institute of the NAS of Belarus. Dr. Magnus Breidne familiarized himself with the latest innovative developments and technologies of organizations and discussed a number of promising areas for possible interaction.
