Delegation of NASB Agency for Space Research takes part in Yerevan meeting

On 13-14 December 2018, the 9th meeting of representatives of the executive authorities from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) on space cooperation was held in Yerevan, Republic of Armenia. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, and a representative of the CIS Executive Committee. A delegation of the National Academy of Sciences under the leadership of Ivan N. Bucha, Head of the Department for Space Activities, represented the Republic of Belarus.

The meeting participants were given an account on the implementation by the CIS members of the decisions of the 8th meeting held in Moscow (Russian Federation) in October 2017. The parties discussed ways to implement the Convention of the Commonwealth of Independent States on cooperation in the field of research and peaceful use of outer space, which was signed in Dushanbe (Republic of Tajikistan) on September 28, 2018. They also discussed the Agreement on the implementation of joint activities of the CIS member states in the field of the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes, which was signed in Astana (Republic of Kazakhstan) on November 2, 2018. In particular, the participants looked into the formation and running of the Interstate Space Council as a body coordinating cooperation in the CIS space activities.

The parties reflected on the current state and development prospects of cooperation in the implementation of the project for the creation of the International Global Monitoring Aerospace System (IGMASS) and services for the integrated situational presentation of warning information about natural and man-made disasters in Russia and the CIS countries. The creation of joint projects for the development and implementation of navigation technologies, using signals of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), was debated. The participants also considered regulatory and technical issues of the joint projects concerning space activities of the CIS countries. At the suggestion of the Belarusian party, it was decided to hold the 10th meeting of representatives of the executive authorities from the CIS countries on space cooperation in Minsk in October 2019.

Within the framework of the meeting, the official opening of the unified station of information gathering of the GNSS system, located in the territory of the Byurakan Observatory (Yerevan), was held. The official opening of a similar station operating in the Republic of Belarus (Minsk) is scheduled for the first quarter of 2019. Director General of the Roscosmos State Corporation is expected to participate in it.
