Friction contact between two elastic semiplanes with local surface depressions. pp. 350--360

Summary: Contact friction interactions between elastic semiplanes with geometrically disturbed boundaries are consdiered. The problem is studied for the cases of isotropic and anistropic materials of contacting bodies. The method of intercontact clearances has served to inroduce integral equations to which the problem is reduced.A numerical procedure of the solution of the obtained equations for a single depression along the boundary of one of the semiplanes is shown. The geometrical characteristics of the interphase clearance for a specifically shaped depression are analyzed.

Discrete modeling of damage of sliding bearings with the account of the combination of effects and criteria of failure. Communication 3. Finite element models of contact interactions between surfaces. pp. 361--368

Summary: Fundamentals of modeling contact interactions between real surfaces are disclosed based on the linear mechanics of the "third body" (the "contact pseudoenvironment"). The features of the proposed iterative algorithms of solving non-linear contact problems are briefly described. An example is demonstrated how to identify the features of the "contact pseudoenvironment" using the results of the calculation analysis of experimental studies of contact rigidity. Methods and results of calculations (using three-dimensional finite element routines of calculations) and experimental studies (using strain measurements) of the stress-strain state of the model of the marine crosshead bearing are brifely described. The expected potential of the proposed methods for solving contact problems with the help of finite elements is demonstrated.

Hydrodynamic calculation of a non-homogenous three-layered porous bearing with variable permeability along the axis. pp. 369--375

Summary: A mathematical model has been elaborated of the flow of a lubricating matreial in the three-layered porous bearing of a finite length operating under pressure. Analytical dependencies of the basic effective characteristics of the bearing have been obtained. The regularities of variations of the permiability of porous layers have been established when the porous liner produces a sealing effect (eliminating leaks at end faces) and operates in the optimal mode.

PC-process of analyzing and synthesizing friction units usingb databases and expert systems. pp. 380--385

Summary: A PC-process of calculating and designing units using the database (DB) and expert systems (ES) is proposed. The DB structure includes the names (brands), parameters of process treatment, volume and surface characteristics of materials to be used in friction units, characteristics of testing equipment, conditions and results of experiments, etc., as well as a variety of auxiliary data necessary for designers. Expert systems of two types are used: "common" systems comprising the knowledge base (KB) based on the rules, an interpreter block, an interface portion, and a hybrid ES which, in addition, contain the blocks for performing calculations using traditional methods of programming. The system combining the described DB and ES can operate in three major modes: data input and processing; determination of characteristics of a specified friction unit; optimal designing of a tribosystem. The above PC-process is projected to be used for designing friction units of transport vehicles at designing organizations and for taining students majoring in "triboengineering".

Creating conditions of liquid friction in drawing. pp. 386--392

Summary: A precise solution has been obtained of the flow of a viscoius liquid in the clearance having one wall stationary and the other moving at a consant speed. The solution is applicable to the liquids when the invariants of stress tensors and deformation rates are related through an exponential dependence. The calculations have been used to develop a process of drawing with liquid friction.

Aspects of data studies of thermal dynamics and modeling of friction and wear of friction couples at the stage of projecting the working characteristics of loaded braking devices. pp. 393--400

Summary: New comprehensive methods are proposed for calculating and assessing experimentally the friction -- wear, temperature and vibration characteristics of multidisk brakes of aircraft wheels at the stage of projecting and designing. An example of most promising brakes with disks from carbon friction composite materials (CFCM) illustrates the methods.

Choice of an optimal design of the engagement with a variable gear ratio based on the wear resistance criterion. pp. 401--407

Summary: A design of the transmission is described having a variable gear ratio based on the tooth wheel with assembled tooth sectors which project in respect to the axis of rotation to a distance which varies within the required range. The significance of wear resistance is corroborated as a criterion for evaluating the performance of the transmission and a simplified algorithm is shown to determine the friction path in characteristic points of tooth profiles of the basic modifications of the transmission with assembled tooth wheels.

Measurement of friction forces by a method approximating of envelope curve. pp. 424--432

Summary: The simple and precise method of measuring of forces and friction coefficients is offered on the basis of recording decadent vibration amplitudes of a compound pendulum. This method does not require amplitudes measuring. It allows to install dependence of a frictional force on velocity. Dynamics of a pendulum with a ball bearing is explored. The results of a force measuring of a rolling friction are given. The error estimation of a method is given.

Studies of wear resistance of parts with multilayered structures. pp. 433--437

Summary: The process of abrasive wear of steel specimens (steel 40) with longitudinal and transverse interlayers of non-ferrous metals (zinc, copper) and alloys (brass Л79, Л63, duralumin D16) has been studied using the methods of scanning electron microscopy and X-ray phase analysis. The combination of the basic metal with an auxiliary layer (brass Л79) has been determined as best capable to promote wear resistance. The temperature in the zone of friction has been estimated based on the spinel ZnFe2O4 which would appear in the process of friction. It has been established that the transfer layer of the non-ferrous metal (the alloy) appearing on the surface of the basic metal explains better wear resistance of the specimens. The thickness of the layer has been determined.

Summary: The results of indistrual tests of wear resistance of shaped mills from cast and rolled high-speed P6M5 steel are shown. A relationship has been established between the structural features, the pattern of wear and the durability of the tools. Electron microscopic studies of microhardness have revealed a typically weaker abrasive and adhesive wear and a stronger resistance of the material to plastic deformation.

Role of lubricating additives in alloy coating withstanding high temperature. pp. 451--458

Summary: Lubricating coatings of Ni-based high temperature alloy were made on a stainless steel substrate (1Cr18Ni9Ti) by flame spray method. Friction and wear of the coatings were measured on pin/disk tester at different temperatures: 25, 200, 400, 600 °C in air separately. Role of Lubricating additives (CaF2/BaF2 eutectic, PbO and В2О3) in the coatings were studied as robbing with stainless steel (1Gr18Ni9Ti). It was found that coating including CaF2/BaF2 of amount 25 wt.% had lowest friction and wear. Better tribological property of the coating were just begun to appear at temperature 600 °C as adding PbO into coating including CaF2/BaF2. However, tribological property of coating was obviously improved in above temperature range in case of adding В2О3 into the coating. Then, state variation and distribution of some elements on rubbed surfaces were observed with X-photoelectron spectroscope (XPS) and electron probe niicroanalyzer (EPMA) in order to explaining lubrication mechanism of the coating at high temperature condition.
