Calculation of the parameters of the elastic contact and effective characteristics of a topocomposite for the case of its contact with a spherical indentor. pp. 583--596

Summary: A problem of contact between a rigid spherical die and an elastoplastic double-layered semispace (a topocomposite) is analyzed. Analytical expressions are obtained for determination of the elastic contact. The case is examined of critical penetration of the sphere into the topocomposite when plastic deformation appears at some depth under the indentor. Analytical expressions have been obtained for determination of the critical contact parameters and effective characteristics of the topocomposite, vis., the effective rigidity, yield stress, load bearing capacity, hardness. The effect of the mechanical characteristics of the components and thickness of the surface layer on the effective characteristics of the topocomposite has been studied. The limits of coating thickness are determined at which local reduction of the effective characteristics occurs.

Phonon friction. pp. 597--606

Summary: The paper deals with the mechanism of emergence of the forces of friction and energy dissipation in the friction contact that may be termed as phonon mechanism. It is postulated that phonons (oscillations of the domains of the atomic structure) appear during a shift of the periodically variable force field, also the periodic atomic force fields appear both due to the action of forces of adhesion and forces of attraction and due to the forces of repulsion or dehesion making this mechanism a universal one. The phonon hypothesis presumes that deceleration resulting from excitation of phonons during a shift in the field of action of the forces of dehesion creates the main resistance to the motion of rubbing bodies in the most common friction pairs. Transition from the dehesive phonon interactions to the adhesive or mechanical leads to the violation of the Coulomb--Amonton law and change to the wear mechanism.

The stability of the radial bearing with a quasicircular contour of the bearing surface area. pp. 607--610

Summary: A problem is solved of the stability of the radial bearing with a quasicircular contour of the bearing surface area. A method is proposed how to predict the support area of a radial bearing to withstand heavier loads. It has been established that the bearing with the quasicircular contour has better stability than the bearing with the circular contour of the support surface.

Dependence of the friction coefficient of the wheel-- rail pair on contact parameters. pp. 611--618

Summary: A formula is advanced to calculate temperature of the contact spot between the rail and the wheel. It has been revealed that this temperature determines the friction coefficient in the first approximation. It is shown that the surfaces can "memorize" the preceding loading through the actual contact area. An approach is proposed to determination of the temperature limits at which the actual contact area begins to grow quickly.

Theoreticial and experimental study of cracking caused by the impact of a solid particle against rubber surface. pp. 623--628

Summary: A theoretical model is advanced how a crack appears, grows and propagates in the surface layer of rubber impacted by a solid particle. It is shown that the direction of the crack coincides with the angle of incidence. The theoretical model has been validated experimentally.

Numerical simulation of contact interaction between a tool and a plastically deformable body through a viscous-plastic material interlayer. pp. 629--634

Summary: A finite-element model of isothermal settlement of a three-layered workpiece with differing rheological properties of the central and surface layers serves to predict the rheological parameters of the viscoplastic surface layer (the interlayer) reducing the force of deformation, saving the reousree of plasticity (the damage extent) and making hot deformation more regular.

Characteristics of a water drop jet for removing brittle coatings. Part 1. Experiment. pp. 640--644

Summary: The pulsation of water pressure at the inlet into the spray nozzle, distribution of sizes of drops, the speeds and coordinates flat and round water drop jet have been studied when the jet serves to eliminate brittle coatings. It is established that within the pressure range 10 to 60 MPa the parameters of Waybull distribution of sizes of drops are practically independent of the nominal pressure. The distribution of speeds of drops relates to their dimensions. The trace of the water drop jet on the exposed coating reflects its non-homogeneity due to water pressure pulsations in the nozzle and correspondingly to the speeds of drops.

Molecular mechanisms of self-organization during boundary friction. pp. 645--652

Summary: A hypothesis is proposed to explain the mechanism of self-organization in tribosystems with boundary friction by the deexcitation of inversely populated levels of excited states of the active substances. It is shown that deexcitation of the activated substance in the tribological systems during boundary friction by chemical and tribochemical reactions is kinetically similar to the behavior of a laser system. The results of a high accuracy tribological experiment corroborate the proposed hypothesis.

Tribotechnical polymeric composite materials based on Polytetrafluoroethylene and ultradispersed ceramics. pp. 653--660

Summary: The basic circle of problems is given in the field of polymeric materials and tribology of polymeric compositions investigated at the Yakut state university and Institute of nonmetallic materials RAS. The results of works on creation of polymeric composite materials on a basis of industrial polymers modified by nanoscale ceramics are analysed and mechanisms of their wear process are discussed.

Summary: The results are presented of experimental studies of mechanophysical and triboengineering properties of polytetrafluorethylene-based composite materials modified with dispersed and fibrous fillers. It is shown that the processes of solid phase synthesis and friction of the polymer composites are accompanied by changes in the phase composition, the parameters of the supermolecular structure and structural energy self organization of the dissipative tribostructures containing the liquid crystalline structures of the carbochain of polytetrafluorethylene.
