On January 30, 1922, on the basis of the Scientific terminology commission, the Institute of Belarusian Culture, the higher state scientific structure in the BSSR, was established with the main tasks of organizing the study of social sciences and coordinating all scientific activity in the state. Having started its activity with research in the field of humanities, the Institute of Belarusian Culture gradually began to acquire the character as an integrated scientific institution. In July 1926 preparation began for the reorganization of the Institute of Belarusian Culture in the Academy of Sciences. Already in 1928, the Institute has 15 departments, 3 commissions, the Botanical Garden, Chemical Laboratory, the Zoological Museum, the Library and the Printing in House. On October 13, 1928 the Administration of the Central Executive Committee and the Council of People’s Commissars of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic adopted a resolution “On the reorganization the Institute of Belarusian Culture into the Belarusian Academy of Sciences”.
