On March 25, 2021, the NAS of Belarus hosted a meeting the Scientific and Technical Council of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russian Federation and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on the scientific and technical program of the Union State program “Development of innovative geographic and genomics technologies for identification of personality and personality traits of the person based on the study of the gene pool of the Union State region” (“DNA identification”). The meeting was attended by representatives of the NAS of Belarus, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Standing Committee of the Union State and executors of the program “DNA identification”.

The meeting discussed the progress in the implementation of the Program “DNA identification” of scientific and applied assessment, the results of international interaction between the teams of executors of the Program, the prospects for routing the results in the Republic of Belarus and in the Russian Federation obtained in the course of the implementation of the Program, as well as monitoring of the implementation of the Program carried out by the Standing Committee of the United States for 2020. On the main issues was the consideration of the progress of work on the preparation and approval and the draft concept of a new scientific and technological program at the Union State “Development of innovative technologies for genetic identification of forensic significance biological objects to increase the efficiency of crime detection” (“DNA identification” - 2) 2022-2026.

Speaking to representatives of the media, Alexander Kilchevskiy, Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus, scientific director of the program from the Belarusian side, noted: “DNA identification” is an aid to forensic science and our doctors. The first task is aimed at identifying a person, and we have already developed a number of methods, in private, to establish a person’s appearance (eye and hair color) by DNA with a fairly high accuracy – about 90% and higher. There are successes in the identification of age: we determine the age of a person by biological traces (with an accuracy of 3-4 years). It is also important to establish the psycho-emotional status of person by DNA, especially for those professions where stress is a part of life”.
