On December 22, 2021, at 11.00, the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library of the NASB will host a presentation of the epic novel of the outstanding Kazakh writer, prominent scientist and public figure Mukhtar Amarkhanovich Auezov (1897-1961) "Abai's Way", widely known not only in Kazakhstan, but also far beyond its borders.
"Abay's Way" is a kind of artistic encyclopedia of the life of the Kazakh people of the 18th-19th centuries. The main character of the epic is a real historical person, a great poet, founder of Kazakh written literature, educator Abai Kunanbayev. The novel unfolds a panorama of the full drama and contradictions of folk life, life and customs of nomadic and sedentary steppe dwellers, vividly shows the breadth and beauty of the freedom-loving soul of the Kazakh people, their dreams for the best, their hopes and aspirations, their peculiar spiritual way, national character.
“The heritage of great creators should work for the New time, for new generations,” said Mukhtar Auezov in 1945 during the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Abai. The writer at that time was finishing the first book of the future world famous epic. Mukhtar Auezov with his creativity entered the 21st century with dignity: his novel "Abai's Way" was republished without cuts in the new millennium in Kazakhstan, again translated into Russian by the famous translator Anatoly Kim, who called the epic "an epoch-making novel about a nomadic civilization."
"Abai's Way" has become the cause of wide international interest of translators from many countries and has been translated into 116 languages of the world. First, the novel was translated by Leonid Sobolev, Anna Nikolskaya, Zoya Kedrina and Nikolai Anov, and then by Kim into Russian, and then into many languages of the world, mainly from the Russian version of the translation. Directly from the original language, the tetralogy was translated into Chinese and a number of Turkic languages.
In 2020, on the 175th anniversary of Abai, the novel comes to the Belarusian reader in the translation of the poet, prose writer, critic Mikhail Poznyakov. The work on the translation of the book was carried out by order of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Belarus. All four volumes of the epic novel were published in 2021.
For the event, the library staff prepared a book exhibition, which will introduce the work of Abai Kunanbayev and literature about the famous poet and educator. The second part of the exhibition is dedicated to the author of the epic "Abai's Way" Mukhtar Auezov. The library has several reprints of the novel; you can also learn more about the biography of the writer. The exhibition will also present literature about modern Kazakhstan, history, culture of the Kazakh people, Belarusian-Kazakh relations.
The presentation will be attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Belarus Askar Asanovich Beisenbayev and other representatives of the embassy, Belarusian scientists and writers.
