On December 8, 2022, a press conference on the topic «Education and science: the intellectual potential of the nuclear industry» was held at the BELTA press center.
Tamara Korbut, deputy director general for scientific work of the United Institute of Energy and Nuclear Research - Sosny, took part as a speaker of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. She spoke about how Belarusian scientists provide scientific support for the work of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant. «Belarusian scientists work on a wide range of issues related to nuclear technologies. As for the nuclear power plant, in addition to construction and commissioning, there are a number of rather complex issues directly related to the operation of the plant, its decommissioning in the future, the management of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel. We fulfill the tasks of the state research programs and the state program of scientific support for the construction of the nuclear power plant. We tackle both fundamental scientific and applied issues. We go hand in hand with the specialists of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant. In addition, nuclear technologies are relevant both in the field of medicine and in the field of agriculture», Tamara Korbut said. She noted that in order to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the nuclear power plant and other nuclear installations at all stages of the life cycle, it is necessary to train young specialists and contribute to the development of expert potential. Special attention is paid to the personnel issue. Knowledge is transferred to a new generation from experienced specialists.
