On December 13, first deputy chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Sergey Chizhik spoke at the XI Forum of Universities of engineering and technology specialization of the Union State.

As Sergey Chizhik noted in his speech, today an increase in the popularity of engineering and technological specialties is predicted, it is expected that they will compete with the IT sphere in terms of demand. «Today we understand more than ever that the appropriate education determines the technological security of our state. In the face of unprecedented sanctions, substitution of critical imports, we are becoming stronger. We cannot say that the XXI century has not yet given us anything. It has already defined a completely different development principle based on IT technologies, in particular, the Internet. And here we must not lag behind! The issue of microelectronics development is on the agenda: Belarusian specialists have both groundwork and experience in this field, and the desire to implement them», Sergey Chizhik said.

From December 12 to 16, with the support of the Standing Committee of the Union State, the Ministry of Education of Belarus, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia, the XI Forum of engineering and technological universities of the Union State is being held at the premises of BNTU. The forum is attended by higher education institutions of Belarus and representatives of Russian universities. The main objectives of the forum are to popularize engineering education, attract young people to the field of science, create an interuniversity platform for the implementation of the main directions of Belarusian-Russian integration cooperation in priority areas of science and technology development and support talented youth.
