Emilia Ivanovna Kolomiets, director general of the State Scientific and Production Association «Chemical Synthesis and Biotechnology», Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Honored Scientist of the Republic of Belarus, was awarded a high award by the Government of the People's Republic of China, the «Friendship Prize».

The award was presented by the mayor of the city of Tai'an, Shandong Province. The «Friendship Prize» of the Chinese Government was established in 1991 specifically for foreign experts who have made an important contribution to the economic construction and social development of China. The award is recognition of the results of microbiologists from Belarus and China great joint work with a concrete result. Highly qualified, well-developed material and technical base allowed us to develop and implement modern biotechnologies of soil improvement in Shandong province using environmentally friendly biological products, alternative to agrochemicals.

Today, headed by Emilia Ivanovna, State Scientific and Production Association «Chemical Synthesis and Biotechnology» has taken a leading position in the production of microbiological products in Belarus. New research directions based on the widespread use of genetic engineering and molecular biology methods have been developed, the material and technical base has been modernized, research and production sites equipped with the most modern equipment have been put into operation, an effective system of training highly qualified scientific personnel has been established. This combined ensured the creation and practical use of original national biotechnologies in the interests of healthcare, food industry, agriculture, industrial fish farming, and environmental protection.
