6th international scientific conference Monitoring and Assessment of the State of the Flora

On October 10–13, 2023, the Institute of Experimental Botany named after V.F. Kuprevich of the NAS of Belarus organized and held the 6th international scientific conference Monitoring and Assessment of the State of the Flora on the basis of the Pripyatsky National Park (Gomiel Region, Pietrykawski District, Liaskavichy ag.). The conference is dedicated to the Year of Peace and Creation in the Republic of Belarus, the 95th anniversary of the founding of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the 30th anniversary of the National Environmental Monitoring System in the Republic of Belarus.

The purpose of the forum is to analyze the state and trends in the dynamics of the flora, the need to develop new ground-based and remote monitoring methods and technologies, the exchange of the accumulated experience and its practical use. 153 people from 69 organizations and departments, institutions of science, education, nature protection of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Republika Srpska and Turkey registered to participate in the conference. At the plenary session, 13 reports were made by 27 authors from 12 institutions of Belarus and Russia. An agreement on creative cooperation was signed between the Institute of Experimental Botany named after V.F. Kuprevich of the NAS of Belarus (Minsk) and the Udmurt State Agrarian University (Izhevsk). The conference was held in 3 sections:

- Monitoring and Assessment of the State of Forest Vegetation. 16 reports of 40 authors from 12 institutions of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia were made at the section;

- Monitoring and Assessment of the State of Herbaceous Vegetation in Natural and Anthropogenic Disturbed Areas. 17 reports were made by 41 authors from 11 institutions of Belarus and Russia;

- Monitoring and Assessment of the State of Biodiversity and Protected Species of Plants and Fungi. 17 reports were made by 43 authors from 13 institutions in Belarus, Russia and Turkey.

As a result, 63 reports from 33 institutions of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkey were heard and discussed during the 2 days of the conference. A collection of conference materials has been published. The best reports are recommended for publication in the collections of scientific papers Botany (Research) and Collection of Scientific Papers of the Forest Institute of the NAS of Belarus, as well as in the journal Лесной вестник / Forestry Bulletin (Russian Federation). Field excursions were held on the territory of the Pripyatsky National Park, where scientists visited observation points for monitoring aquatic, forest, meadow-swamp vegetation, objects of monitoring protected plant species; forest areas with rare and typical biotopes, objects of damage by the ipid bark beetle. Methodical classes were conducted on laying a network of monitoring points and assessing the state of forest ecosystems using phyto-indication. On the water part of the excursion, the conference participants got acquainted with the floodplain phytocenoses of the Pripyat River.
