On July 23, the Press Centre of the Press House hosted a round table on the 30th anniversary of the Institution of the Presidency in the Republic of Belarus on the topic The Institute of Presidential Power: The History of Formation and Modernity. Nikolay Myslivets, the Director of the Institute of Sociology of the NAS of Belarus, Candidate of Science in Sociology, and Nikolay Smekhovich, the Head of the Centre for the History of Belarus of the late 18 – 21 Centuries of the Institute of History of the NAS of Belarus, Doctor habilitatus in History, took part in the event on behalf of the Academy of Sciences.
Nikolay Myslivets noted during the event: "The institution of the presidency exist in many countries. But it is the political will of the leader, wisdom and reliance on the people that ensure the effective functioning of this institution itself, and the successful implementation of all areas of modern state policy." In turn, the Head of the Centre for the History of Belarus of the late 18 – 21 Centuries of the Institute of History of the NAS of Belarus, Doctor habilitatus in History, Associate Professor Nikolai Smekhovich noted: "History has shown that the country has no future without a strong political leader." Nikolai Smekhovich also stressed the fact of popular support for the future President in the 1990s. "The political forces that represented the legislature, they were actually against the President. Who could Alexander Grigorievich rely on? He could only rely on the people," he said.
