On August 2, 2024, the National Press Centre of the Republic of Belarus hosted a press conference on the Improving the Philological Culture of the Belarusian Society. The speakers at the press conference were: Director of the Yanka Kupala Institute of Literary Studies Ivan Savierchanka, Director of the Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics Igar Kapylow, Head of the Department of Publications and Textology at the Yanka Kupala Institute of Literary Studies Aliena Vasilievich. The scientists presented the most important projects contributing to the improvement of the philological culture of the Belarusian society and the improvement of the philological situation in the country.
Director of the Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics Igar Kapylow spoke about the acute problem of using profanity. The director of the Institute noted that "the use of such vocabulary is not just prohibited by moral norms. This is what clogs up the language, destroys the language system and eventually leads not only to the impoverishment of the language system – the problem must be seen much more broadly – leads to the degradation of personality, human inferiority." "We need to work actively in this direction, together with our literary colleagues, to popularize the works of our classics, involve the school in this work, and still return such creative works as exposition. Unfortunately, we note today that young people have so-called mosaic, clip thinking. It is necessary to involve them in culture," the scientist summed up.
In his speech, Ivan Savierchanka touched upon the topic of cooperation with Russia, noting that at the moment all conditions for joint work are being created. "Yes, we see areas that we need to continue working on, what we need to publish. Which more promising projects should be implemented, which literature should be developed, and, of course, I wish this to develop within the framework of the Union State as well. I remember how my colleague and I worked and put a lot of effort into creating the library of the Union State, then to support young writers in the Friendship Bridge (Most druzhby) competition. This work is ongoing. In addition, there is also inter-academic cooperation between Belarusian and Russian academicians," the scientist shared.
Head of the Department of Publications and Textology at the Yanka Kupala Institute of Literary Studies Aliena Vasilievich emphasized in her speech that philological education is of invaluable importance in shaping the thinking, worldview, character of a person and humanity as a whole. Without a philological, humanitarian basis, and cultural component, the path of human and humanity development is unpredictable. And the heritage of the classics of Belarusian culture plays a huge role in the formation of humanitarian culture.
In conclusion, the scientists answered numerous questions from journalists.
