On November 10–15, 2024, a delegation of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna) visited the NAS of Belarus*. The purpose of the visit is to study promising areas of cooperation with organizations of the NAS of Belarus.
On November 13, a round table was held on the Prospects for the Development of Cooperation between JINR and the NAS of Belarus, dedicated to discussing projects for inclusion in the Roadmap of Cooperation between the NAS of Belarus and JINR. With the participation of Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Uladzimir Gusakow and Director of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research Grigorij Trubnikov, the results of the work were summed up and a Protocol was signed following the results of the round table.
Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Uladzimir Gusakow noted that Belarus has been working with the Institute since the very beginning of its formation, for many decades. "JINR is a powerful scientific research organization, which is not inferior to Western scientific centres in terms of performance," he stressed. "We are interested in cooperation in various areas. This is an opportunity to increase our level of scientific knowledge." The delegation of the Institute is visiting the institutions of the NAS during the current visit. During the meetings, scientists highly appreciate the Belarusian developments.
According to JINR Director Grigorij Trubnikov, cooperation has been established with several dozen institutes of the NAS. It concerns joint publications, scientific research, as well as educational programs, education of the younger generation of scientists, and mutual visits. "The spectrum is very wide. We cooperate in the field of radiobiology, medicine, natural sciences, in the development of new materials, for example for batteries, nanotechnology, in particular on targeted drug delivery using nanoobjects. Very interesting projects of applied research in seismology are presented. Ecology is an important area. Everyone is talking about climate change, that it is necessary to reduce the carbon footprint, work with enterprises, quickly and accurately determine the source of the atmosphere, soils, waters (sewage or in rivers, lakes) pollution. We have absolutely unique joint environmental projects: we can determine 55 isotopes with record accuracy," Grigorij Trubnikov informed.
During the visit, members of the JINR delegation visited a number of organizations of the NAS of Belarus. Among them: Physico-Technical Institute of the NAS of Belarus, Institute of Heat and Mass Transfer named after A.V. Lykov of the NAS of Belarus, Scientific and Practical Centre of the NAS of Belarus for Materials Science, Institute of Applied Physics of the NAS of Belarus, Institute of Physics named after B.I. Stepanov of the NAS of Belarus, State Research and Production Association Optics, Optoelectronics and Laser Technology, United Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the NAS of Belarus, Minsk Research Institute of Radio Materials, Joint Institute for Power and Nuclear Research – Sosny of the NAS of Belarus, etc.
*The Joint Institute for Nuclear Research is a world-renowned scientific centre, which is a unique example of successful integration of fundamental theoretical and experimental research with the development and application of the latest technologies and university education. JINR's rating in the world scientific community is very high. JINR members today are 16 states, including the Republic of Belarus.
