From 3 to 14 February 2025, the 62nd session of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space is being held in Vienna (Austrian Republic), in which a delegation of the NAS of Belarus and representatives of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Belarus to international organizations in Vienna took part.
On February 3, 2025, Irina Kazachok, leading specialist of the aerospace activities of the administrative office of the NAS of Belarus, made a statement on behalf of the Republic of Belarus on clause 3 of the agenda. She noted that space activities in Belarus are carried out for peaceful purposes and are aimed at achieving the sustainable development goals defined by the UN. Space activities are an area where the latest achievements of mankind are concentrated, the pinnacle of scientific and technological progress, and make a significant contribution to the development of science and technology, economics and culture, and the informatization of society. Belarus is one of the countries with a high level of scientific and technological development. Scientific Secretary of the UE “Geoinformation Systems” Dmitry Kotov spoke on clause 4 of the agenda. In the statement, Dmitry Kotov presented information about the creation of a space system for radiometric monitoring of near-earth space. The system is designed to monitor the state of the ionosphere and predict magnetic storms in the interests of the energy complex of Belarus.
Belarus became a member of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space in 2014.
