Five books by Belarusian Science Publishing House became winners of the 64th national competition “The Art of the Book”
Five books by Belarusian Science Publishing House have won the 64th national competition “The Art of the Book”. This is the result of productive and coordinated work by book publishers and scientists. The award ceremony took place on March 15 at the XXXII Minsk International Book Fair.
In the nomination "Art Book", the winner was the publication "Strokes Say: Album of Graphic Works" (author - Academician A. Lokotko). It presents graphic works made by the author in different years based on materials from expeditions and trips to Belarus and neighboring countries. Another book, “Statehood of Belarus: Dates, Facts, Events / to the 30th Anniversary of the Institute of Presidency in the Republic of Belarus,” won in the “Science and Knowledge” nomination. The book shows the difficult path taken by Belarusian people from ancient times to the formation of a national sovereign state – the Republic of Belarus.
The first degree diplomas were awarded to: in the nomination "Spirituality" - the book by A. Martinovich "Faces in Time", in the nomination "Science and Knowledge" - "Bright Representatives of the Wild Nature of Belarus" (prepared by a team of scientists from the SPC of the NAS of Belarus for Bioresources). The first is dedicated to seven of our outstanding compatriots, whose names are immortalized in the architectural and sculptural composition "Golden Ring of Belarusian Science", located near the NAS of Belarus. The second provides data on the most famous species of mammals and birds in Belarus, as well as plants and mushrooms, which are the most striking representatives of the flora of our country. Each essay is accompanied by color illustrations, providing both the most important distinguishing characteristics of the species and interesting facts about it.
In the special nomination “For contribution to the preservation of historical and cultural heritage”, the second degree diploma was awarded to the book “Festive time: folk customs and beliefs in the tales of Belarusians” (author – T. Kukharonak, Center for Research of Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature). The book, based on materials collected during expeditions, provides a comprehensive presentation of holiday customs, rites, songs with reference to the folk calendar. It also provides memories and stories of Belarusians collected over the past 10-20 years and related to calendar and ritual themes.
