On May 6–7, 2025, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus hosted the International Scientific and Practical Conference “The Great Victory in the Name of Peace and Creation (for the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet People in the Great Patriotic War)”.
At the grand opening, the Chairman of the Presidium Vladimir Gusakov, the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko, Veniamin – Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavl, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, the Minister of Education Andrei Ivanets, representatives of the Prosecutor General’s Office, public associations “Belaya Rus” and “Belarusian Peace Fund”, and other distinguished guests addressed the participants of the Forum with welcoming words.
The International Forum, whose program is extensive and diverse, brought together historians from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kursk, Smolensk, Tambov and Tula regions, the Republic of Tatarstan, Chuvash and Chechen Republics, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. Belarusian historical science is represented at the conference by scientists from 55 Belarusian and 18 foreign organizations: academic institutes, higher education institutions, museums, archives, libraries, schools.
During the conference, issues of modern approaches to covering the events of the Great Patriotic War, international relations on the eve of and during the Great Patriotic War were considered, key battles of the Great Patriotic War, the Nazi occupation regime in Belarus (1941-1944) and everyday life under occupation, the activities of collaborationist organizations and the genocide of the Belarusian people, the Soviet partisan movement and the activities of underground organizations in Belarus, the preservation of historical memory of the events of the Great Patriotic War and its memorialization, the contribution of the Soviet people to the victory over Nazism, the reflection of the history of the Great Patriotic War in the educational process in schools, secondary specialized educational institutions, universities and many others were covered.
As part of the conference, diplomas were awarded to the laureates of the 18th International Youth Scientific and Practical Conference “The Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945 in the Historical Memory of the People”, which has been organized for 18 years in a row by the Institute of History of the NAS of Belarus and Gymnasium No. 174, Minsk (more than 100 students from all regions of the country and Minsk).
The International Scientific and Practical Conference "The Great Victory in the Name of Peace and Creation (on the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet People in the Great Patriotic War)" is held in accordance with the Plan for the preparation and holding of events to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Republic of Belarus from the Nazi invaders and the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus A. Lukashenko dated October 5, 2023.
The event was organized by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Institute of History of the NAS of Belarus, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Belarus, and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus.
