A visiting meeting of the Standing Commission on Education, Culture, and Science of the House of Representatives was held at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus

Today, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus hosted a visiting meeting of the Standing Committee on Education, Culture, and Science of the House of Representatives. Also participating were Vladimir Karanik, Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus, representatives of the National Center for Legislation and Legal Information of the Republic of Belarus, the State Committee on Science and Technology, and others.

The agenda includes current issues in the practical application of legislation on scientific, scientific-technical and innovative activities, and a discussion of problematic issues in the application of legislation on science.

Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Vladimir Karanik drew the attention of those present to the fact that science must be more responsive, have close ties with the real sector of the economy, and promptly respond to the challenges of the time. "Times change very quickly, but we all operate within the legal framework—the Law “On Scientific Activity, the Law “On the Fundamentals of State Scientific and Technical Policy”, the Law “On the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus” and decrees. And our task, while remaining within the legal framework, is to promptly introduce legislative changes that will truly enable science to work more effectively," said the head of the Academy of Sciences.

Vladimir Karanik also expressed confidence that the exchange of opinions with deputies and other participants will contribute to the further development of domestic science.

In turn, Igor Marzalyuk, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Education, Culture, and Science of the House of Representatives, emphasized the crucial need to develop a further paradigm for the development of Belarusian science in order to address a number of key issues, including the aging of the scientific workforce and the declining level of academic qualifications. He stated that strengthening close cooperation between academic and university research schools is among the most important issues on the agenda.

"Today, the most important tasks are accelerated scientific development and ensuring technological security, which is impossible without the development of science and scientific schools," said Igor Marzalyuk.

Vyacheslav Danilovich, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee on Education, Culture, and Science of the House of Representatives, fully agrees with him, noting that the state has set ambitious goals for the scientific community and that it is crucial that science brings the greatest possible benefit to our society and the state.

During their visit to the National Academy of Sciences, members of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly were given a tour of the History Museum and the permanent exhibition "Research, Development, Production."
