Congratulations from Vladimir Karanik, Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus, on the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia

Dear colleagues! Dear friends!

I congratulate you on the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia!

Exactly 30 years ago, on April 2, 1996, the Treaty on the Formation of the Community of Russia and Belarus was signed, the day of signing of which is annually celebrated as a holiday that has become a true symbol of the centuries-old fraternal ties between our peoples.

The unity of Belarusians and Russians is cemented by genetic memory: we remember how, during the Great Patriotic War, our great-grandfathers fought to the death at the Brest Fortress, heroically defended Mogilev, and liberated Belarus, reducing the Nazi Reich to dust. Symbolically, the Soviet fronts under the command of the legendary Marshals Zhukov and Rokossovsky, which routed the enemy in its lair in 1945, were called "Belarusian."

After the war, we worked together to rebuild Minsk, whose architectural gems were designed by architects from Leningrad and other Russian cities. Bricks from the legendary Pavlov House in Stalingrad, which the President of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, called "sacred relics," were used in its construction.

The history of our union is a chronicle of shared achievements, cultural exchange, and mutual support that continues to be written today, enriching the lives of everyone who is part of this unique community. It is crucial that today we have joint initiatives that serve as a living bridge between generations, fostering a deep understanding of the value of peace and serving as a moral compass for future generations, inspiring them to preserve what has been achieved and strengthen unity.

Belarusians and Russians are increasingly visiting each other, discovering new, unexplored horizons of natural and architectural beauty. Business exchanges between our countries are growing year after year. This is particularly noticeable in the scientific field, which is in many ways the driving force behind the development of the Union State. Joint achievements in space research, information technology, and medicine have laid the foundation for a unified scientific and technological space. Effective scientific programs and joint import substitution projects have become an important element in ensuring technological sovereignty, once again demonstrating that Russians and Belarusians effectively complement their joint research, relying on mutual trust and support. I am confident that the continued work of Belarusian and Russian scientists, based on the principles of openness, honesty, and equality, will contribute to strengthening the scientific potential and the prosperity of our countries.

Today, the leadership of Belarus and Russia is doing everything possible to ensure that our peoples truly feel part of a single, large family. And each of us, through our creative work, contributes to this great cause.

I sincerely wish you good health, prosperity, friendly warmth, and all the best!

Vladimir KARANIK,
Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus
