A meeting of the Presidiums of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and Russian Academy of Sciences was held in Minsk
Training highly qualified specialists and supporting young scientists is important because without talented personnel, further scientific development is impossible. This was announced today by Vladimir Karanik, Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus and Russian Academy of Sciences, before the joint meeting of the Presidiums of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and Russian Academy of Sciences. According to him, the meeting plans to discuss the most pressing topics and promising areas of cooperation, including mega-science projects and access for Belarusian scientists to major fundamental science research projects currently being implemented in Russia.
"Science must generate new knowledge and address issues in the real economy. Overall, we work to make the unimaginable become obvious. And our goal is to do this as quickly and effectively as possible. And this is impossible without young people, highly qualified personnel, and serious research, including at mega-science facilities, and addressing the most promising areas," said Vladimir Karanik.
The head of the Academy of Sciences also recalled that Belarusian and Russian scientists face the task of ensuring technological sovereignty. This means establishing domestic production of those microchips critical to key technological processes. This includes microchips for technological equipment, space exploration, and the aviation industry.
"Therefore, research is being conducted in several areas. First, this is developing competencies for mastering new technological processes. These include specialized lasers, photoresists, and low-tonnage ultra-pure chemicals," he said.
Vladimir Karanik expressed confidence that in the coming years, through joint efforts with Russian colleagues, we will be able to provide our countries' critical technologies with the necessary equipment and microchips.
