Chairman of the Presidium of the NASB Vladimir Karanik and Head of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan Shavkat Ayupov held a working meeting today, where they discussed prospects for deepening bilateral scientific and technical cooperation

During the negotiations, Vladimir Karanik noted that both states attach great importance to the development of science, which imposes serious obligations on the academies of sciences to strengthen interaction.

He emphasized that the time has come to take cooperation to a new level.

“Uzbekistan now ranks third among Belarus’ partners in the number of joint scientific projects through Belarusian Republican Foundation for Basic Research, second only to Russia and China,” said Vladimir Karanik. “The existing potential significantly increases the scope of joint work and claim leading positions in international grant programs.”

The head of the Academy of Sciences proposed expanding interaction not only through joint research and implementation of bilateral projects, including in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, agriculture, new materials, but also through educational programs and internships for Uzbek specialists.

In turn, Shavkat Ayupov spoke about the large-scale revival of Uzbek academic science.

According to him, today large scientific centers are again functioning in the country, including the Institute of Nuclear Physics and other scientific institutions.

The key request of the Uzbek side was the exchange of experience in matters of commercialization of scientific developments.

Shavkat Ayupov emphasized that the Academy faces the task of not only developing fundamental science, but also ensuring its real contribution to the economy.

“In this context, the experience of Belarusian colleagues in commercializing scientific developments and introducing innovations into production is of particular interest to Uzbekistan,” he said.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to identify promising areas of scientific and scientific-technical cooperation and prepare a cooperation roadmap.
