In accordance with the Conception of formation and development of innovative industrial clusters in the Republic of Belarus the Republican Scientific and Practical biotechnology cluster, which brings together leading specialized research institutes (the Institute of Microbiology of the NAS of Belarus, the Institute of Genetics and Cytology of the NAS of Belarus, the Institute for Meat and Milk Industry of the NAS of Belarus) and industrial enterprises (JSC «Bobruisk plant of biotechnologies", LLC "Frandesa", LLC "Biocom"), was established on the basis of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for the purposes of scientific support for the development of the biotechnology industry in the country.
The priorities of the cluster: development of the concept of the domestic bio-industry development; scientific management of state programmes on creation of innovative scientific and technical developments of world-class and their commercialization; development of information and analytical infrastructure of domestic biotechnology.
Activities of the cluster are designed to contribute to the competitiveness and export potential of the domestic biotechnology, decrease of import dependence on a range of biotechnology products and services, creation of high-tech industries and organizing new types of high-tech products, which is a prerequisite for high rates of economic growth of the republic.
As is known, the main goal of the present economic policy of the Republic of Belarus is to increase national competitiveness, expanding the share of domestic enterprises in the domestic and world markets, increasing efficiency of their activities through the introduction of science intensive, resource saving technologies and innovative services. An important step towards the building of new highly efficient economy is the formation of innovation clusters — associations of research organizations, industrial enterprises of state and private ownership forms, government bodies, public organizations, to ensure the efficient transformation of inventions into innovations, and innovations — into competitive advantages of the products.
