On November 26, 2021, the I Congress of Scientific Councils of the International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS) ended at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. It was held in coordination with the III Forum of Scientists of the CIS Member States. It was attended (in full-time and online formats) by heads and leading scientists of academies of sciences and major scientific and research centers of a number of states, including delegations from Belarus, Russia, China, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova, Tajikistan, Ukraine.
As the Chairman of the Presidium of the NASB, head of the IAAS, Academician Vladimir Gusakov emphasized, speaking at the I Congress of Scientific Councils of the IAAS, “The role of scientific councils in our association can hardly be overestimated. Their tasks include the analysis of achievements, determination of priority directions and forecast of the development of scientific councils of the IAAS in the context of the development of science in the member states of the IAAS and world science in general; scientific advisory and expert support of IAAS activities; popularization and propaganda of science, scientific knowledge, achievements of scientists. Generally speaking, they ensure coordination of cooperation between research centers of different countries along key research vectors."
It was noted at the Congress: The International Association of Academies of Sciences, responding to the challenges of the time, formed scientific councils on priority branches of science and technology. There are now 23 of them. The range of competencies is wide: from the most important scientific problems in the field of virology, space, new materials, nanotechnology and nanoindustry, petrochemistry, biotechnology to mathematics, geography and geology, agriculture, history, science of science, publishing and book culture and in other areas.
The forum participants said that today the situation in the world is changing rapidly. Modern reality puts everyone in front of new global threats. Overcoming them requires solutions associated with large-scale interdisciplinary scientific research, affecting serious problems. And scientists should play a special role in solving these problems.
During the work of the I Congress of the IAAS Scientific Councils on November 24-26, 2021, the main results of the activities and prospects of the work of the IAAS scientific councils, issues of further cooperation in key areas of development of modern science were considered. Scientists from different countries made scientific reports, discussed the results of research on the current state of academic science in academies of sciences - members of the IAAS; interaction of botanical gardens of the CIS countries, the work of the scientific council on virology, prospects for international cooperation in the study of problem ecosystems, the development of interstate cooperation in space research and other pressing problems.
Within the framework of the Congress, meetings of the Council of Young Scientists of the IAAS (in the format of a video conference), the Scientific Council on Petrochemistry of the IAAS and the Scientific Council on the Protection of Intellectual Property and the Transfer of Technologies of the IAAS were held.
Members of the Scientific Councils visited the scientific organizations of the Academy of Sciences.
Based on the results of the work, the resolution of the Congress of Scientific Councils of IAAS was adopted.
