Leonid Vasilyevich Kukresh (b. 27.07.1938, v. Rechen, Lyuban district, Minsk region.), a scientist in the field of crop production, breeder. Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (2003), Academician of the Academy of Agrarian Sciences of the Republic of Belarus (1996-2002), Doctor of Agricultural Sciences (1985), Professor (2000). Honored Scientist of the Republic of Belarus (1999).

— Graduated from the Belarusian Academy of Agriculture (1960).
— In 1960-1969 - Chief Agronomist of the state farm, First Secretary of the Komsomol district committee, Chairman of the collective farm in the Pruzhany district of the Brest region.
— In 1969-1972 - Senior Agronomist of the Agricultural Department of the Zhabinka District, Head of the District Plant Protection Station.
— In 1972-1989 - Senior Researcher, Head of Department, since 1989 - Deputy Director for Research of the Belarusian Research Institute of Agriculture and Feed.
— Since 1994 - Chief Adviser of the Main Department of the AIC of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus.
— In 2003-2008 - Head of the Science Sector of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Belarus.
— Since 2008 - Advisor for the Production of the Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus.

Scientific works in the field of breeding, farming and crop production. Contributed to the development of technology for the cultivation of leguminous crops, the solution of problems of production of vegetable protein, increasing the productivity of grain farming. Under his leadership and with direct participation in Belarus, extensive work has been carried out on the selection of peas and the spring wiki. As a result, pea varieties of morphotypes Belus, Agat, Belarus, Svitanak, spring wiki Natalie were created and zoned. Co-author of the spring triticale variety created in Belarus Inessa.

Author of more than 180 scientific papers, 7 monographs.
